The designation will take place in the courtroom of the Sioux County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m.\, and the public is invited to attend. Governor Terry Branstad will present the official designation at the event. \nHome Base Iowa provides veterans with resources that assist them in finding employment in and becoming part of Iowa communities. \nTo receive the Home Base Iowa designation\, communities and counties must meet four requirements: 10 percent of the businesses in the designated area must become Home Base Iowa businesses and pledge to hire a specific number of veterans; a welcome and incentive package must be developed for veterans; Home Base Iowa designation signage must be prominently displayed; and the local governing body must give a resolution of support. \n“We are proud to receive the Home Base Iowa designation. We are excited to have a program that will help our local employers find much needed skilled employees\,” says Mark Gaul\, community development director for the City of Orange City. “We are glad to be able to assist our people coming out of the military and to provide them with quality employment and a place to call home.” \nFollowing Sioux County’s official designation\, information on the Home Base Iowa program will be available on the county’s website:  www.siouxcounty.org.

DESCRIPTION:The 22nd annual Red Raider Road Race is scheduled for Saturday\, Oct. 3.\nCheck-in @DeWitt Learning Commons at 8 a.m. Race starts at 9 a.m.\nThe road race\, which is a part of the Raider Days Homecoming celebration at Northwestern College\, consists of a 5K race and a one-mile walk. Participants should check in at the DeWitt Learning Commons\, just west of Christ Chapel on Northwestern’s campus. Register at www.nwciowa.edu/raider-road-race before Oct. 2. Registration is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the walk. Participants can also register the day of the race for $25. All registered participants will receive a T-shirt and post-race snacks and refreshments. Awards are given to the overall female and male 5K winners\, as well as the female and male winners in each age category.

DESCRIPTION:  \nwhat is a “craft-creation?”\nThe new Halloween “Craft-Creation” Contest has replaced the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. The Chamber has asked that no pumpkins be submitted this year\, and instead we will be accepting kids’ entries of “craft-creations” with a Halloween theme.\nThe contest will follow the same format as years before.  Everyone can drop off their contest entries at the designated business for their school grade found below. Entries should be homemade and not contain features that will “go bad.” There are no set rules for what the creation must be. Everyone is encouraged to follow the Halloween theme. Winners will be announced and marked in stores on Friday October 30th. \nClick our examples below and check out our pinterest board! \n\n\n\n\n\nDrop off your creations at the following locations.

DESCRIPTION:They’re committed to a prison ministry. They received national attention when they sang on NBC’s The Sing Off. They’re six women — singing a cappella. They’re performing in Orange City Wednesday\, Sept. 30\, part of Orange City Arts’ Beyond Onstage series. The show is at 7pm at the Northwestern College Chapel. Tickets are $12 adult\, $8 student in advance\, $15 & $10 at the door. From timothysgift.com: The Timothy’s Gift journey started the instant compassion became passion. In 1998\, Nashville businessman Ron Miller watched a news report about a Florida boy\, Tim Kane\, who was charged with murder\, tried as an adult\, and given two life sentences despite having never touch a single victim. Hearing Tim’s certainly unique story lead to the birth of a non-profit\, Timothy’s Gift\, that has already touched thousands of lives. What may be most extraordinary about all of this is the hope Tim has sparked all from inside the prison walls. The Hope Tour\, led by Melissa Greene\, has risen to be a vital instrument for sharing the message of Timothy’s Gift to both inmates and staff. Timothy’s Gift gained national recognition by being involved on NBC’s The Sing Off Holiday Special in December 2014.
