The Chamber has asked that no pumpkins be submitted this year\, and instead we will be accepting kids’ entries of “craft-creations” with a Halloween theme.\nThe contest will follow the same format as years before.  Everyone can drop off their contest entries at the designated business for their school grade found below. Entries should be homemade and not contain features that will “go bad.” There are no set rules for what the creation must be. Everyone is encouraged to follow the Halloween theme. In 1998\, Nashville businessman Ron Miller watched a news report about a Florida boy\, Tim Kane\, who was charged with murder\, tried as an adult\, and given two life sentences despite having never touch a single victim. Hearing Tim’s certainly unique story lead to the birth of a non-profit\, Timothy’s Gift\, that has already touched thousands of lives. What may be most extraordinary about all of this is the hope Tim has sparked all from inside the prison walls. The Hope Tour\, led by Melissa Greene\, has risen to be a vital instrument for sharing the message of Timothy’s Gift to both inmates and staff. Timothy’s Gift gained national recognition by being involved on NBC’s The Sing Off Holiday Special in December 2014. Whether she’s crooning rootsy ballads or plucking bright riffs from her bass\, the gutsy songstress from Portland\, Oregon\, puts a fresh spin on the standards and brings a canonical sensibility to her own lush tracks. Lauded by MTV as one of 2014’s “15 Fresh Females Who Will Rule Pop\,” Kate grew up with an instrument in her arms and a head full of inventive lyrics. DESCRIPTION:“Doubt\,” a Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning drama\, will be presented by Eastcheap Theatre Company Sept. 4 and 5 in the DeWitt Theatre on the campus of Northwestern College. The production begins at 7:30 each evening in the Allen Black Box Theatre. \nSet in a Bronx\, N.Y.\, Catholic school in the mid-1960s\, “Doubt” explores the relationships between a priest\, Father Flynn\, and two nuns\, Sisters Aloysius and James. When Sister Aloysius learns of a private meeting between Father Flynn and one of the school’s students\, her suspicions and accusations lead to upheaval at the school and in the lives of the three main characters. \nThe play is being directed by Northwestern College senior Jacob Christiansen\, Omaha. When he expressed interest last year in gaining more directing experience\, he learned his mentor and theatre professor at Northwestern\, Karen Bohm Barker\, has always wanted to play Sister Aloysius. Barker is a member of the Eastcheap Theatre Company. \nIn addition to Barker\, the “Doubt” cast also includes Northwestern theatre professor Dr. Robert Hubbard in the role of Father Flynn; NWC theatre alum Hannah McBride\, Orange City\, as Sister James; and NWC student Denise Cowherd\, Des Moines\, as the mother of the student with whom Flynn meets privately. \nTickets for “Doubt” are $5 and will be available at the DeWitt Theatre box office beginning 30 minutes prior to each show

Hosted by Zestos this Thursday\, August 20.  Serving starts at 6:00 pm.\nFor questions or a ride\, call (712) 441-3201.\nThe Shepherd’s Table free monthly meal is a Zestos Christian Outreach committed to fellowship\, caring for needs and reaching out to lost souls in the name of Jesus.  Currently The Shepherd’s Table occurs in several communities across Northwest Iowa and beyond in the form of an evening meal or a Saturday morning brunch.  Although these events are similar in purpose\, they are as unique as the communities they serve and the fellowships that host them. \nChristian Outreach takes many forms at the Shepherd’s Table.  We start with a welcome\, a brief message and a prayer.  Fellowship between guests and volunteers flourishes throughout the event.  The caring\, sharing\, and prayers feel like a big group of kitchen tables all in the same room. \nDuring the event we encourage the guests to share needs and prayer requests by filling out a card.  This information is shared with prayer ministries of the participating churches.  Some of the events include a Christ-centered children’s activity like a skit or arts and crafts.  The positive results are twofold: more fellowship time with parents and providing the only Christian education some of these kids get. \nAfter the meal\, everyone is welcome to take home free food for them\, or for them to share with someone in need. Just like the love of Jesus\, the food is freely given without question or expectation. \n\nMost of all\, let love guide your life\, for then the whole church will stay together in perfect harmony.      Colossians 3:14
