DESCRIPTION:The Tulip Festival Steering Committee invites adults\, college-age and older\, to participate in the Adult Dutch Dance portion of this year’s Straat Feest. Both new and returning dancers are welcome and encouraged to join. \nAdult Dutch Dance practice dates are set for five Wednesday evenings\, beginning in April. The dates include April 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29\, as well as May 6. A final practice will be held on Monday\, May 11. Each practice will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Orange City Town Hall. \nAuthentic Dutch costumes are required for participants. The Orange City All Stars (some of our locals including mayor\, Deb DeHaan) and Orange City Fareway will try to play this adapted version of baseball blindfolded. \nThis sport is played on an open grass field. There are only two bases in a beep baseball game\, and they buzz. The object of the game is to hit the beeping 16″ softball (while blindfolded)\, then make it down to 1 of the 2 buzzing bases before the fielder retrieves the ball. If successful\, that’s a run. If the fielder retrieves the ball before the runner makes it to one of the bases\, they are out.\n \nThe batter gets 5 chances to hit the ball. There are 3 outs per half inning. DESCRIPTION:The Orange City Public Library will launch its first annual Día de los Niños\, Día de los Libros celebration on May 2\, 2015. Día de los Niños\, or Day of the Child\, is traditionally celebrated on April 30 throughout Mexico. Libraries across the U.S. have combined this Mexican holiday with a celebration of children’s literacy in an event called Day of the Child\, Day of the Book. \nDía will begin at 10:00 am on May 2 with a bilingual storytime\, which is open to English speakers and Spanish speakers alike. From 10:00-2:00\, participants can visit five different countries around the library to get stamps in their Día passport. Stories based in those countries will be read every half hour starting at 11:00. Día will end with a game of Lotería at 3:00 — a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo\, which has been adapted to incorporate popular children’s book characters. \nIf you are interested in this program\, feel free to contact Anna at the Orange City Public Library at 707-4302 or annab@orangecity.lib.ia.us. Come just as you are\, everyone is welcome at the Shepherd’s Table at First Reformed Church this Thursday\, April 23.  Serving starts at 6:00 pm.  For questions or a ride\, call (712) 441-3201.\nThe Shepherd’s Table free monthly meal is a Zestos Christian Outreach committed to fellowship\, caring for needs and reaching out to lost souls in the name of Jesus.  Currently The Shepherd’s Table occurs in several communities across Northwest Iowa and beyond in the form of an evening meal or a Saturday morning brunch.  Although these events are similar in purpose\, they are as unique as the communities they serve and the fellowships that host them. \nChristian Outreach takes many forms at the Shepherd’s Table.  We start with a welcome\, a brief message and a prayer.  Fellowship between guests and volunteers flourishes throughout the event.  The caring\, sharing\, and prayers feel like a big group of kitchen tables all in the same room. \nDuring the event we encourage the guests to share needs and prayer requests by filling out a card.  This information is shared with prayer ministries of the participating churches.  Some of the events include a Christ-centered children’s activity like a skit or arts and crafts.  The positive results are twofold: more fellowship time with parents and providing the only Christian education some of these kids get. \nAfter the meal\, everyone is welcome to take home free food for them\, or for them to share with someone in need. Just like the love of Jesus\, the food is freely given without question or expectation. \n\nMost of all\, let love guide your life\, for then the whole church will stay together in perfect harmony.      Colossians 3:14

SUMMARY:NWC A Cappella Choir Concert
DESCRIPTION:Northwestern College’s A cappella Choir will perform a three-part concert beginning with sacred selections\, including a powerful setting of “Amazing Grace.”  The choir will also perform “Prayer\,” which was written from a prayer by Mother Teresa. \nSection two of the concert will feature virtuosic choral works\, including the women performing “Eatnemen Vuelie\,” a Norwegian tune from the soundtrack for the Disney movie “Frozen\,” and “Blue Tail Fly\,” which the men will perform. “Hee-oo-hm-ha” will feature a tenor yodeler\, and “Bohemian Highway” is a musical “duel” between the alto section and the rest of the ensemble. \nThe concert will conclude with a selection of spirituals and gospel music as well as the choir’s traditional final hymn\, “Beautiful Savior.” \nThe 43-member A cappella Choir is directed by Dr. Thomas Holm\, professor of music at Northwestern and conductor of the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus. The ensemble has performed across the U.S. and in Europe.

SUMMARY:Tulip Festival Adult Dutch Dance Practice
DESCRIPTION:The Tulip Festival Steering Committee invites adults\, college-age and older\, to participate in the Adult Dutch Dance portion of this year’s Straat Feest. Both new and returning dancers are welcome and encouraged to join. \nAdult Dutch Dance practice dates are set for five Wednesday evenings\, beginning in April. The dates include April 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29\, as well as May 6. A final practice will be held on Monday\, May 11. Each practice will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Orange City Town Hall. \nAuthentic Dutch costumes are required for participants. Participants are encouraged to find their own dancing partner\, but assistance will be provided if needed. Questions can be directed to Todd and Kris McDonald at 712-541-3636.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Tulip Festival Dutch Costume Exchange will take place on Wednesday\, April 8\, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in the basement of Iowa State Bank (105 Albany Ave SE). \nIndividuals interested in selling Dutch costumes can drop their costumes off at the Tulip Festival/Chamber office (509 8th Street SE) on Monday\, April 6 or Tuesday\, April 7. Sellers should determine the price of their costumes and fill out the seller’s form. Please note that the Tulip Festival Steering Committee only accepts authentic Dutch costumes for the exchange. \nPlease note that you don’t have to have an authentic Dutch costume to exchange to participate. You are welkom to sell authentic Dutch costumes without purchasing others\, or you are welkom to purchase authentic Dutch costumes without bringing others to sell. \nQuestions can be directed to the Tulip Festival office at 712-707-4510.

DESCRIPTION:Watercolor artist Judy Thompson will offer an Artist Talk at the Orange City Public Library on April 7th at 6:30 pm. Thompson will discuss the inspiration for her Homestead Series and Silver Lake Reflections\, which are on display at the library through the month of April. \n\n\nJudy’s artist talks and presentations describe the inspiration\, history and artistic process behind the creation of the Homestead series. Learn about her experiences as an artist in residence at two national parks and how\, through her research\, was inspired by the unique stories of homesteaders. Judy will share with you her love of the prairie and her love of watercolor. This program is free to the public. \n\n\n
