It’s time to prepare for The Nutcracker!
Ballet Quad Cities is coming in September for master classes and library workshops and in December return for a live performance of The Nutcracker at the Unity Christian Knight Center featuring local & professional talent in December.
Orange City Arts Council welcomes The Nutcracker, to be performed by Ballet Quad Cities on Saturday, December 19 at 1:30 and 7:30 pm at the Unity Christian Knight Center. Reserved seating tickets will be available in November. Ballet Quad Cities will also present a school assembly, featuring one act of The Nutcracker, on December 18.
In September the community is invited to participate in, modern & ballet master classes, library workshops, and auditions for local dancers.
Modern and ballet master classes will be taught Friday, September 18 by award-winning instructor Margaret Huling, Ballet Mistress with Ballet Quad Cities. Participants should have some previous dance experience. Class times are: 4:00 – 4:45 pm for 6 to 9-year-olds; 5:00 – 6:15 pm for students age 13 and older; 6:30-7:30 pm for 10 to 12 year-olds. The master class will be held at Robin’s School of Dance, 1602 First Ave SW in Sioux Center. Fee is $10. Space is limited, so reserve a spot with Robin Van Es soon!
In 2014-‘15, Ballet Quad Cities offered 77 “Dance Me a Story” programs that reached more than 3,100 children and adults. As part of their continuing outreach and education program a free workshop, “Dance Me a Story; Exploring Literature through Ballet,” will be presented on Saturday, September 19: 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Orange City Public Library and 12:30-1:30 pm at the Sioux Center Public Library. Participants will learn how the story inspires the choreographer and dancers, plus see costumes, headpieces, props and special pointe shoes… which bring the story to life.
An opportunity to dance alongside the dancer of Ballet Quad Cities and to the well-known music of Peter Tchaikovsky will have children and adults, boys and girls, enjoying this fun and creative way to dance a story!
On Saturday, September 26, auditions will be held for local dancers interested in performing in The Nutcracker alongside the dancers of Ballet Quad Cities on December 18 and 19. Auditions will be held at Robin’s School of Dance in Sioux Center from 10:30 am to noon, and at City Hall in Orange City from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Dancers planning to audition must pre-register: contact Robin Van Es or Becky Donahue at Robin’s School of Dance. Students auditioning must stay the entire 90 minutes during other’s auditions.
