Linda McCann will present this historical talk about Prohibition in Iowa including information specific to northwest Iowa.
Linda Betsinger McCann is an Iowa native and loves to discover facets of Iowa’s history she doesn’t know much about. She writes to preserve that history for her grandchildren. Prohibition interested her when older people were telling her stories she had never heard. When she spoke with younger college-graduates and realized they knew nothing about Prohibition except Al Capone and the Untouchables.Â
Prohibition is the 13 year time frame when it was illegal to manufacture, sell or transport liquor. There were murders in Iowa over Prohibition! Al Capone did spend time in Iowa, and there were gun fights on our narrow two-lane roads. Whatever was going on nationwide happened in Iowa also. Linda was able to speak with the children of moonshiners and bootleggers and discovered why their fathers chose to get involved in this illegal activity. Linda will share information specific to this part of Iowa in her talk.
Linda has had eight books published by The Iowan Books, and has a new one about the CCC expected in November. She can be reached by email or through her publisher.
