Vision

Orange City Area Daycare and Preschool strives to be a reliable, nurturing, and affordable childcare provider of choice.

Reliable—we want parents to know childcare is consistently available during the work week.

Nurturingwe strive to provide a developmentally appropriate environment for young children that is safe, clean, and accepting of individual differences; and to engage children in meaningful interactions and activities.

Affordablewe attempt to keep the cost of our service affordable while compensating staff with wages they deserve.

Of Choice—we value the loyalty of the families we serve and we seek to improve all we do through systematic performance evaluation.

Mission

The mission of Orange City Area Daycare and Preschool is to provide reliable, quality child care services in an environment that nurtures and meets the individual needs of children and their families.

Philosophy

Orange City Area Daycare and Preschool exists to provide high quality care and education to children ages six weeks through fifth grade. Recognizing that a nurturing environment is vital, our staff works together to provide safe, sanitary, and welcoming surroundings for children. The educational component of programming is provided through planned activities that allow children to learn and to explore while having meaningful interactions with peers and adults. We view quality childcare as a combination of care and education, because both components are important to the development of the whole child. Our experienced and trained staff members realize that children and their families have diverse needs. Our goal is to partner with the parents/guardians to help each child thrive and develop.

Structure

The governing Orange City Area Daycare and Preschool Board of Directors is comprised of members representing the MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District, the Orange City Area Health System, the City of Alton, the City of Orange City, and parents. The Board is the final authority and is ultimately responsible for all facets of operation. The Director is hired by the Board and is given authority to manage the daycare organization within the established policies of the institution and the guidelines of the Iowa Department of Human Services, Head Start, the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Quality Rating System, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Licensing

Orange City Area Daycare and Preschool is licensed to operate by the Iowa Department of Human Services.  The current license is posted near the front entrance.  A copy of the Child Day Care and Preschool Licensing Standards and Procedures, Form SS-0711, is available upon request from the DHS licensing consultant or from the Iowa Department of Human Services. “As summer school aged teacher at Orange City Daycare and Preschool, I carefully plan each day’s activities to provide a balance of physical outdoor activity with fun, but purposeful learning center activities. Children are engaged in writing, drawing and reading activities daily to minimize the ‘summer learning loss.’ Children are actively involved in planning, planting, maintaining, and harvesting a summer vegetable garden as well as performing a child sized circus and learning puppetry skills with Lisa Laird of Pockets Full of Fun. Children ages five through 12 are welcome to join the summer fun.”
–Leora Olson, lead teacher

“Selecting Orange City Daycare and Preschool was the right choice for our son. The care providers are passionate about providing a program that is fun and educational.  Our son enjoys all of the fun activities, crafts, and games.”
