water conservation ordinance
(updated 05/22/2022)
Dear Resident,
Due to the ongoing drought and abnormally dry conditions, the City of Orange City will be entering a Water Warning for the remainder of 2022.
The City continues the work with DGR Engineers for a new well in the southwest wellfield area. Construction on the distribution lines will begin this summer and continue into the fall and winter. Final project completion is scheduled for May 1, 2023. Future capital projects in the 5 year plan will likely include additional ground water storage and a new water tower
Recently approved water rates will provide the majority of funding through revenue bonds for this project. We will also be applying American Rescue Funds to this project as an approved infrastructure expenditure.
Residents are encouraged to employ prudent restraint on water usage and to conserve water voluntarily with whatever methods are available.
Lawn irrigation is limited to one time per week with no more than one inch of water applied each week. Please avoid the hours between noon and 5 PM for any outdoor irrigation.
Washing or cleaning of outdoor surfaces including buildings, sidewalks, driveways, porches, or other outdoor surfaces are discouraged as well. We also request that you communicate with our public works department prior to the installation of any sod, or large areas of new seeding.
The full ordinance can be downloaded here.
Thanks again for your cooperation – we look forward to the completion of this significant project – your patience is appreciated!
Sincerely,
Earl Woudstra, City Administrator
