The City of Orange City recently completed a significant water infrastructure project to increase water supply and improve reliability. The project consists of ten miles of 16” pipeline to the Southwest Wellfield, located southwest of the community on Hickory Ave and 500th St, and an additional deep well. The existing wellfield consists of three wells and has been called upon heavily over the last four summers as drought conditions increased customer usage and taxed the city’s water supply. The drought also negatively impacted the seven shallow wells, resulting in no water flow from these sources. The new well and pipeline provides redundancy and reliability, even during extreme usage during the summer, allowing city staff to perform routine operation and maintenance activities on the wells.
