On March 7th, at 1:30 pm, author Clark Kidder will give a presentation at the Orange City Public Library, sharing his knowledge of the Orphan Trains. Between 1854 and 1929, nearly 250,000 children were transported from New York City to the homes of farm families in almost every state, particularly in the Midwest. Kidder tells the story of his paternal grandmother, the late Emily (Reese) Kidder, of Milton, who was brought to Wisconsin in 1909 as one of these orphan children. He will read from his new book, Emily’s Story – The Brave Journey of an Orphan Train Rider. Kidder will also show pictures from the book in a PowerPoint presentation. The program will allow time for questions and answers. Admission to the program is free. The speaker will have copies of his Orphan Train themed books for sale and signing at the program. Mr. Kidder’s book should be available for check out at the Orange City Public Library soon.
