Spotlight Series: Meet the Police Department
Each month, we take the time to highlight one of the city departments and the work they do for our community. This month, we are highlighting the Police Department. Chief Jim Pottebaum and his dedicated team work every day to make sure Orange City is a safe and thriving community. Learn more about the team below.
Trey Niemyer:
Trey serves as the Police Department’s investigator. He appreciates having a community that is very supportive of the department and an administration that helps to provide the resources and equipment they need to do their jobs properly and effectively. Trey and his fiancé live in Orange City and enjoy using the trails and taking their dogs to the dog park!
Audley De Jong:
Audley has been a police officer for the past nine years. Protecting and serving our community and meeting many new people are his favorite parts of his role. He and his wife enjoy having some of their kids and grandkids living in Orange City. They spend their free time walking the trails, fishing, and enjoying the parks.
Bruce Jacobsma:
Bruce has served Orange City as a police officer for the past 23 years.Bruce currently serves in the role as assistant Chief.
Darren Wielenga:
Darren has served the Orange City Police Department for 5 years. He lives in Orange City with his wife, Ashley, and their 3 kids. In his free time, he can be found golfing, riding bikes around town with his family, or camping! His favorite parts of serving as a police officer is meeting new people, offering answers to community questions, and helping those in need. Darren shares

Brent Van Leeuwen:
Brent is a reserve police officer in Orange City. He has served in this role for 2.5 years and has also worked with the Orange City Fire Department for 19 years as a student and full-time member. He is married and has two daughters. They enjoy the close community Orange City provides.
Trey Schiebout:
Trey has been a police officer in Orange City for two years. He enjoys helping residents who may find themselves in challenging situations. He also enjoys living in a friendly community that provides great opportunities and activities. He enjoys spending time attending various athletic events, going out to eat, and attending downtown events!
Ryan Sandbulte:
Ryan has been a police officer for 10 years and has lived in Orange City for the past 2 years. He appreciates the supportive community and the city leadership that stands behind its employees. He is dad to Gavin and Charlie and enjoys spending time outdoors with them. He is also an avid hunter and can often be found at the gym.
Dalton Vogel:
Dalton recently joined the Orange City police department. He and his wife Lexi enjoy walking the trails with their dogs or relaxing outside with friends and family. He appreciates the people he works with daily and enjoys helping the public in their time of need.
Trevor Gries:
Trevor became a part of the department last year after previously working as a sheriff deputy in Osceola County. He shared,
“The support that the police department gets from the Orange City community makes it a great place to work and you always have opportunities to grow.”
In his free time, Trevor enjoys going to the gym, or hunting and fishing with his dad and brother.
