Oak Grove Summer Camps

Join Sunday Ford, Sioux County Naturalist this summer for outdoor adventures. All summer camps are free of charge.  Pre-registration is required and will start April 1, 2014 starting at 8am. Space is limited. All registration for summer camps must be done by registering online at www.mycountyparks.com/County/Sioux.aspx

Budding Naturalists (Different from last year)

These little naturalists will have a hands-on introduction to nature.  Parents/adult must attend. Includes games, crafts, and trail hikes.

June 4, June 12, July 15 8:30am-12pm

Ages 3-4

Snails, Salamander Tails

Discover which animals use slime, and explore the wonderful world of natural slime. This camp includes trail hikes, games and crafts

Choose from the following dates:

June 10-11 9:00am-noon OR 1:00-4:00pm

June 19-20 1:00-4:00pm

Ages 5-6

Bug Scouts 

Campers will explore the world of entomology by making insect collections that they will be able to take home with them.

This two day camp is offered four times:

June 24-25, June 26-27 9:00am-2:00pm

July 1-2, July 29-30 9:00am-2:00pm

Ages 7-9

Water Works

Get ready to get wet! We will discover and learn about the Iowa’s wetlands-hands-on! We will explore insects, amphibians; put together bird boxes, water pollution and testing, canoeing and go fishing. Will be held at Big Sioux Recreation Area, south of Hawarden.

July 22-23, July 24-25 9:00am-3:00pm

Ages: 10-12

Hunter Education Overnight Camp

This overnight camp will give participants the opportunity to pass the Iowa Hunter Education course (which is required for an Iowa Hunting license), as well as participate in a fun overnight camp experience.  Participants will learn firearm safety; shoot/don’t shoot scenarios, hunting laws and more. Also go on night hike, catfish the river, try out archery, and make S’mores. Camp runs: 9:30 am overnight till 1:30 pm on the 9th. Potluck meals.

Hunter Education Class

This class is open to all those age 11 and over. No cost for the class, sign up is a must and is done by going to the following link: http://reservations1.usedirect.com/IowaWeb/Activities/SearchFilters.aspx  when you get on the site you will need to search for the class by entering the city or zip code for the class, and also change the month to August. In addition to signing up prior to the class you must pick up a hunter education book from either the Hawarden Library or at the Sioux County Conservation Board Office at Oak Grove.  Complete the review questions in the back of the book and bring along to class that day.
