Día de los Niños – Día de los Libros

April 29, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Orange City Public Library will launch its third annual Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  Join the library as we celebrate diversity and literacy through a variety of activities, crafts, and stories!  Activities will begin at 9:00 am in the library and will continue until noon.

This year’s theme is “Mythical Figures Around the World.”  Stories featured include The Sandman and Yeti and the Bird.

From 9:00-12:00, participants can learn about five different countries at stations around the library–Nepal, South Africa, Denmark, Iran, and the Ukraine– earning prize drawing entries for each stamp in their Día passport.  Each station will feature a tale about a mythical figure and an activity or craft. Stories that stem from those countries will be read at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:00.  A 10:00, we’ll play a game of Lotería — a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo, which has been adapted to incorporate popular children’s book characters. Children’s books, in English and in Spanish, will be given away throughout the day, and patrons will be able to taste snacks from different countries.

If you are interested in assisting with this program,  contact Anna at the Orange City Public Library at 707-4302 or via email.  More information about Día celebrations across the country can be found at the American Library Association’s website.
