revealed: the secret of great tulips

In the last couple of years, local volunteers have been tweaking the process of planting 15,000 tulip bulbs in Windmill Park in downtown Orange City.

Nora Mulder and John Buntsma, lead volunteers, have watched the beds get better each year , and have a few new ideas for this year.

“Our goal is to make next spring’s tulips look the best ever,” they said.

Up to a dozen volunteers have helped with planting the bulbs in the past. There is room for even more volunteers.

Plans for this year are to plant bulbs late afternoon/early evening on Oct. 20 and the morning of Oct. 21. All the bulbs will find a home in their winter nests in just a few hours.

So, what’s the secret. Come to the park to find out on our planting dates. Be prepared to join a fun group of volunteers.
