Onstage: Chris O’Leary Band
UncategorizedOnstage Orange City presents the Chris O’Leary Band
ORANGE CITY – A six-piece “perfectly rounded, energetic blues band” from New York, the Chris O’Leary Band, takes the stage Wednesday, July 23 at Windmill Park in Orange City. It’s the Onstage Orange City series, sponsored by Revival Animal Health in conjunction with the Orange City Arts Council.
The evening begins with Revival’s annual pet costume contest, at 6:00pm. All local pet owners are invited to join the fun; pets will be judged for presentation, uniqueness and creativity.
At 7:00pm, the Chris O’Leary Band takes the stage.
O’Leary spent many years as frontman, lead singer and harmonica player for Levon Helm. He has appeared on stage with many artists: Bobby Keys of the Rolling Stones, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmy Vivino, James Cotton, Dan Akroyd and more.
He has moved on to his own 6-piece band and his first release “Mr. Used to Be” won the 2011 Blues Music Award (Memphis) and the 2011 Illinois Blues Blast Award (Chicago) for “Best New Artist Debut”. Now the band has released a second CD: “Waiting For The Phone To Ring.”
Reviews include this one from the Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange: “Chris O’Leary’s got it, man, he’s got it. From rollickin’ rock to weekend stomp to slinkin’ down-lo back-alley swank to barrelhouse balladry and well beyond.”
And from Eric Gleason: “Every so often you’re lucky enough to see a band and realize that everything is just right. The right personalities, the right arrangements, the right instruments, the right attitude… ‘Tight’ doesn’t describe it. Bands that work hard and can stop and start on a dime are tight. Bands that know each other like the back of their hands are something special.”
And Bob Margolin: “While you and your fine band were playing I heard people say, ‘Who cares about the rest of the show, I just want to hear them all night!’ What a strong and impressive set. You and your band rock, big time.”
Concessions on July 23 will be offered by the Kiwanis. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Rain location is the Unity Christian Knight Center. Development Project Updates in Orange City
UncategorizedSeveral projects in Orange City making good progress.
Here are some of those projects and where they are at:
Puddle Jumper #6
This addition was developed for multi-family housing. This area was designated an urban revitalization area with a ten year property tax abatement being offered to developers. The first lot has been sold in this addition with the first four-plex apartment under construction.
Industrie Centrum #5
This area was developed for light industrial projects. These are smaller lots to accommodate smaller service or light industrial businesses. There were six lots developed in this area ranging from .55 acre to .77 acre. One lot has been sold with construction to begin in the near future.
Ben Franklin
Remodel work has come a long way in the former Bomgaar’s Building. We expect the Lori and Phil Warnke will be able to begin to assemble fixtures and start filling the store with inventory by the end of June. Although they do not have a specific opening date, their goal is to open in late August.
Los Tulipanes
The kitchen addition is moving along at the west end of Holland Plaza. Los Tulipanes will occupy the west end of the building with a kitchen addition built onto it. Los Tulipanes has a goal of opening late summer or as soon as the kitchen addition is complete.
Casey’s General Store
The land sale to Casey’s is complete and they own the eastern portion of the former Dutch Colony Inn property. Although we do not know the specific day construction will begin, we stay in touch with Casey’s and will coordinate a groundbreaking ceremony in the very near future.
OCDC Commercial Properties
You will see two signs appear on Highway 10 at the east end of town. There are two prime commercial lots available for sale along Highway 10. One is at the former MOC – Floyd Valley Superintendent Building and the other is the west portion of the property left from the Dutch Colony Inn. We are actively marketing the properties and hope to have them sold to commercial businesses needing a high traffic area.
Hampton Inn
The project is moving along on schedule. Brock Jensen is the General Manager and they are on pace to have a late summer / early fall opening.
