Area artists are invited to submit art for a fifth juried exhibition, The Artist’s Showcase: Orange City Arts’ Regional Exhibition. Deadline for submissions is March 18. The exhibit will be April 22-30, 2016 at the Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.
The exhibit is open to artists from Iowa or within a 350-mile radius of Orange City. Any adult, college or high school-age artist may submit up to three works of 2-D or 3-D art, created in the past three years. There is no theme, no entry fee. Work must be submitted digitally to Orange City Arts.
The exhibit will be held in conjunction with the Northwestern College production of Rabbit Hole.
Best of show and honorable mention awards will be given, with $100 and $40 cash prizes. Artists accepted for exhibit will receive complimentary tickets to the theatre production.

Fine Art Sale to Benefit Luke Society

Elinor Noteboom, a regionally noted artist, has released a portion of her collection to be sold with proceeds benefiting the Luke Society. The sale will be held on May 1-2 in the lower level of the Iowa State Bank, 105 Albany Ave SE, Orange City, Iowa. The hours will be Thursday, 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM and Friday, 10:30 AM-3:00PM.
Including some limited editions, her collection contains more than 25 original serigraphs, pencil sketches, oil and acrylic paintings. Jean Vogel, art sale coordinator, commented, “This is a rare opportunity to be able to purchase these wonderful pieces of art. Elinor has captured the Dutch Heritage in many of her original serigraphs. Another theme she expresses is the relationship of what she experienced on her trips to Japan with the rural beauty of northwest Iowa. This is an exciting collection and I am honored to help bring it to our community.”
About the Artist:
Noteboom’s prints and tapestries are part of public and private collections in the United States, the Netherlands, France and Japan. An authority in the art of screen printing, she has written articles published in the Journal of the Print World and Screenprinting magazine and was a speaker at the International Printmaking Conference held is Bristol, England in 1999.Elinor’s work on the history of serigraphy, also known as silk screen printing, is owned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The 78th Annual Convention of the Iowa Meat Processors Association was held at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center and the ISU Meat Laboratory in Ames, IA on Feb. 13-16, 2014. Processors from 38 plants were in attendance as well as suppliers in the Trade Show displaying products and services in 42 booths. Processors representing 25 plants entered a total of 277 products and there were winning entries from 20 of the 25 plants. Amy Vanden Hull, Woudstra Meat Market in Orange City received two awards. One for Large Diameter Luncheon Meat (Farmers Bologna) and the other for Innovative Beef Product (Amsterdam Roast).
Ben Franklin to Open in Former Bomgaars Building
UncategorizedThe Orange City Development Corporation announced today the future opening of a Ben Franklin Crafts store in the former Bomgaars Supply store building on Orange City’s main street. Phil and Lori Warnke will be opening their second Ben Franklin Crafts store in the fall of 2014.
“We are thrilled that this important building in our vibrant downtown will be home to a Ben Franklin Crafts store,” reports Lyle Korver, President of the Development Corp. “This corner represents an important piece to our retail market. It will not only serve our residents’ stated wants and needs, but also enhance the ‘destination’ niche that continues to build here… an ethnic tourist experience, sought-after shopping and dining venues, and a quality of life enjoyed by all generations.”
Mike Hofman, Orange City Chamber of Commerce Director, adds that Orange City is on a path to become a destination for retail shopping, entertainment, cultural offerings, as well as great place to live. “Our downtown is home to many niche shops and nationally recognized retailers,” he explains. “We believe that Ben Franklin will be a perfect fit and help to complement our other downtown retailers.”
“We are looking forward to opening our second location, being a long-term member of the community, serving the citizens of Orange City, and helping draw new shoppers to town,” said Phil Warnke, co-owner of Ben Franklin. The Warnke’s have operated their Sheldon, Iowa store for over 20 years. Orange City’s Ben Franklin is expected to open in the fall of 2014.
