What starts as a lazy day at the beach, quickly turns into mystery and adventure when the search for Blackbeard’s treasure begins! Tales both past and present lead us on a search of untold riches. Just where has Blackbeard and his crew hidden their legendary treasure? Grab some sunscreen, come on down to the beach and get ready to solve the mystery of BLACKBEARD THE PIRATE!

Auditions:

Monday, July 13 – 9:45am to noon. Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre
Interested students, entering grades 1-12, may audition. Students must attend school at MOC-FV, OCCS, Spalding or Unity (or be homeschoolers in the MOC-FV school district). For special situations, contact Janine at 707-6514

Audition does NOT require a prepared song or reading, but students must attend entire audition. All children who audition MUST be available for rehearsal Monday through Friday, July 13 -17, and have Friday evening and Saturday afternoon free for the performances. There are spots for 50 or 60 students. We’re very sorry, but there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.

Participation fee:

Register & pay by July 8: $25. Register & pay after July 8: $30. Everyone who auditions must pay the participation fee. If the student is not cast in the play, the participation fee will be refunded. Register online thru summer recreation, or at Orange City Arts Council office at city hall.

Rehearsals:

Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, from 10am to noon and 12:30 to 2:30pm. Students must attend when their part is scheduled. Some students will attend morning and afternoon rehearsals, and will need to bring a sack lunch.

Performances:

Friday, July 17, 7:30pm and Saturday, July 18, 2:00pm at Northwestern College’s DeWitt Theatre. Admission will be: Adults $8; K-12 students $4. A DVD will be recorded of the local production of King Arthur’s Quest, for a $15 charge.

(Children entering grades 1-2) The room transforms from students to performers as everyone learns what it takes to prepare a musical. Tues., July 14, 2:45 – 3:30pm. Free

Let’s Make-up.

(Children entering grades 3-6) Make-up is the most basic visual image for performers. We’ll demonstrate corrective, character & special effects make-up for the theatre. Wed., July 15, 2:45 – 3:30pm. Free

Mime Time.

(Youth entering grades 7-12) People communicate in different ways, often without speaking. See how isolations, illusions, gestures & body language are used to tell a story. Thurs., July 16, 2:45 – 3:30pm. Free
